     It is very important to understand how we digest food to receive the nutritional uptake necessary to sustain a healthy body.  Most people do not know whether they are having proper digestion, absorption, and/or excretion.   Some think they are healthy even though they are only having 1 bowel movement every other day and sometimes every 2-3 days.  The idea is, if you are eating 1-3 times a day, you should be excreting 1-3 times a day. You have to take the trash out everyday to avoid the consequences.

     If the opposite of constipation exist, which is diarrhea, then nutritional uptake and absorption is not efficient, this is considered Mal-Absorption Syndrome.  This means that the normal process of the gastrointestinal tract is diminished.  The main purpose of the gastrointestinal tract is to digest and absorb nutrients (fat, carbohydrate, protein, and fiber), micro-nutrients (vitamins and trace minerals), water, and electrolytes.
